Meet Dr. Mary Ann Diorio

Dr. Mary Ann Diorio is a wife, mother, award-winning writer, novelist, musician, artist, life coach and businesswoman. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord in 1970. The following year, she received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Throughout the years, Dr. Diorio has experienced the power of God in her life, perhaps most dramatically in 1977 when her then two-month-old daughter was miraculously healed of an incurable lymph gland disorder, and later, when Dr. Diorio herself was healed of breast cancer.

 

In 1979, Dr. Diorio accepted the call of God on her life to become a writer. In 1995, God enlarged this call to include that of teacher of the Word. Her ministry focuses on this two-part call to write and to teach.

Dr. Diorio has written several hundred articles, short stories, and poems that have appeared in over 100 national magazines, newspapers, and journals, including The Saturday Evening Post, Billy Graham's Decision Magazine, The Atlantic City Press, and Human Events. She also served as head writer for the television series Teen Machine. Currently, Dr. Diorio's popular syndicated column, Winning with the Word. has been published in newspapers throughout the country.

She has authored seven books: Selling Yourself On You: Discovering God's Will for Your Life, Dating Etiquette for Christian Teens, Balancing Your Budget God's Way, Making Your Marriage Work, Writing Fiction for Children, Writing Non-Fiction for Children and A Student's Guide to Nathaniel Hawthorne and has been a contributor to seven others: My Turn to Care (Thomas Nelson), Religious Writer's Marketplace (Abingdon Press), The Young Generation Book of Short Stories, Rest Stops for Busy Moms and Rest Stops for Teachers (Broadman & Holman), The Heart of a Teacher ( Bethany House in 2005), and God Answers Moms' Prayers (Harvest House, 2005).

Dr. Diorio has produced two cassette tapes on writing: Discovering God's Will for Your Writing, and Commercial Writing: A Well-Kept Secret, in addition to several teaching tapes on the Word of God. In 1990, Dr. Diorio won the $4000 Third Place Award in the Annual AMY Writing Awards Program for her article entitled From Feminism to Freedom. Her short story entitled The Birthmark placed fifth in the 1990 National Writers' Club Short Story Contest and ranked in the top 100 in the 1990 Writer's Digest Short Story Contest. In 1992, she was awarded the Second Place Prize in the Novel Category at the St. Davids Christian Writers' Conference.

Dr. Diorio has appeared on several radio and television talk shows, including the nation-wide LeSea Alive program hosted by the late Dr. Lester Sumrall. She has served as a distinguished judge for the annual AMY Writing Awards Program and is a graduate of CLASS (Christian Leaders, Authors, and Speakers Service).

Dr. Diorio is listed in International Who's Who, Who's Who in the East, International Authors and Writers Who's Who, Dictionary of International Biography, The World Who's Who of Women, Who's Who in the World, The International Who's Who of Professional and Business Women, The National Register's Who's Who in Executives and Professionals, and Who's Who in America. Most important of all, Dr. Diorio rejoices that she is listed in The Lamb's Book of Life!

A graduate of the University of Kansas where she earned the Doctor of Philosophy degree in French and Comparative Literature, Dr. Diorio has taught Italian at the University of Kansas, French at the Pitman High School in Pitman, New Jersey, English, French, Spanish, and Creative Writing at the Fairton Christian Center Academy in Fairton, New Jersey, and French and Italian at Cumberland County College in Vineland, New Jersey. She is currently Assistant Professor of Italian at Camden County College in Blackwood, New Jersey.

She has served on the faculty of several writers' conferences, including the Philadelphia Writers' Conference, the St. Davids Christian Writers Conference, the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers' Conference, the Sandy Cove Christian Writers' Conference, and The New Jersey Society of Christian Writers' Seminar. Dr. Diorio is also a graduate of the three-year program of Rhema Correspondence Bible School, a diplomate of The Institute of Children's Literature,
and a graduate of CLASS (Christian Authors and Speakers Services).

In 1984, Dr. Diorio founded Daystar Communications, a writing and editing service based on 2 Peter 1:19 KJV: "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts." The "Day Star" in this verse of Scripture is Jesus Christ. Since 1984, Daystar Communications has expanded its areas of ministry. To reflect this expansion, the name was changed in 1998 to Daystar Ministries International.

Dr. Diorio is also a Certified Life Coach, a Certified Behavioral Consultant, and a Certified Biblical Counselor. She is a gifted Bible teacher and founder and editor of Living Free! ezine.
